Candidates for the IOA Board of Directors
IOA requires 3 new Directors for the Board, the categories are; 2 members with a grower licence and 1 other, the ‘other’ category may be a farmer, grower or associate licence holder.
Below are the candidates to date on Friday 15th April 2016
David Tierney (Other Category / Farmer)
David is a new entrant to organic farming, who is actively involved in the running of the family beef farm. He currently farms part time in addition to being a practicing qualified financial adviser. He is a co-director in a brokerage which has offices in Tipperary and Kilkenny and a member of the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers as well as a member of the LIA.
David Tierney, “ I would hope that should I be elected that I would be able to bring my wealth of knowledge not only from my farming background but also from my other business interests to the benefit of the association, especially in the area of finance, budgeting and process”.
Claire O’Connor (Grower Category)
Claire has been farming a small mixed hill farm in Co Kerry for many years; poultry, pigs and horticulture. In addition, Claire also owns an organic food shop in Tralee, and is very involved in other groups and networks within the organic movement. Claire was previously on the Board of IOA and was instrumental in the implementation of the new database.
Claire O’Connor, “I have a real passion for organic food, I believe it is the most sustainable farming system available and I would like to see more use of organic principles throughout Ireland. I believe my previous work as a quality manager for a large food company as well as my current, and much preferred type of work, will bring real added value to IOA if I am elected”.
Padraig Fahy (Grower Category)
Padraig has held an organic licence for over 16 years. Padraig farms 40 acres of mixed field scale and cover crops, supplying farmers markets, retailers and box deliveries. He was previously Chairperson of IOA in 2005 to 2007. He has been very active in the sector, setting up the OGI and agronomy discussion group, and was a demo farm for several years.
Padraig Fahy, “I believe if I am elected onto the Board I can bring a wealth of experience in various aspects, our farm in Ballinalsoe (Beechlawn) employs 12 staff and we are keen to expand and develop the organic horticulture sector in Ireland, as it has huge potential”.
